Gary and Sandra Thibeault have owned and operated Tebo
Photography in Westerly since 1980. Their specialty includes distinctive and artistic
portraiture of families, children, and couples. Their work is displayed in fine
homes and offices throughout New England.
In 1988 Gary earned the degree of Certified Professional
Photographer and in July of 1996 was awarded his Photographic Craftsmans Degree by the
Professional Photographers Association of America in Orlando Florida. In July of 1997 in
Las Vegas he received his Masters Degree in Photography. Gary is only one of 212
Photographers Internationally and one of only two Rhode Island photographers to hold all
three degrees.
In 2001 Sandra was awarded her Photographic Craftsmans Degree by the
Professional Photographers Association of America in Chicago.
Gary has also received numerous state, regional, and national awards for his creative and
distinctive photography. Over the past ten years, he has accumulated over seventy blue
ribbon prints. Thirty-two of these prints have received the Gold Merit Award from the
Professional Photographers of America, and were included in the General Print Exhibition
at the respective National Conventions. Six of his Merit images have been chosen
as permanent loan images. Since 1991, he has accumulated fourteen Kodak Gallery
Awards which are presented by the Eastman Kodak Company for outstanding Photographic
Excellence, and were awarded in all categories which include wedding, portrait,
commercial and illustrative categories. The images have been included in the Kodak Display
at Epcot Center in Orlando Florida for the past six years. Additionally, he is a
two time recipient of the Hallmark Award, which is presented for the Best Color Portrait
in the Print Competition at the Annual Convention of the Professional Photographers
Association of Rhode Island. He has been awarded with twenty-two Courts of Honor which his
images were chosen as one of the top six photographs in the Print Competitions.
In 2002 Gary was awarded a "Masters Court of Honor" by the
Professional Photographers of Rhode Island. Along with numerous other awards, he has received two Fuji Masterpiece
awards for Photographic Excellence.
Gary has been named Wedding Photographer of the Year and three times named Photographer of
the Year by the Professional Photographers of RI. In 1995, Gary was awarded the
"NATIONAL AWARD" by the Professional Photographers of America from the
Professional Photographers of Rhode Island and in 2001 from the Professional
Photographers Association of New England. This award is
presented for outstanding service to professional photography. The award recognizes those
persons who generously contribute their time and talents to the service of their
profession, their affiliated organization, and their fellow photographers.
During the Annual Awards Banquet of the professional photographers of New
England Gary was the recipient of the PPANE Presidents Medal for outstanding
service to the association.
In 1991 both Gary and Sandra received the "Rudy Graziani Memorial Service Award"
from the Professional Photographers of Rhode Island. The award is presented for
service and dedication to the field of professional photography.
Sandra is currently serving as Secretary of the Professional Photographers of Rhode Island. In 1999 she was the
recipient of the Professional Photographers Association of New England Presidents
Medal for outstanding service to the association. She currently serving as a
National Councilor to the Professional Photographers of America.
Gary has served on the Board of Directors of
the Professional Photographers Association of New England since 1984 and served
as President in 1999. He is a Past President and serves as Treasurer of
the Professional Photographers Association of Rhode Island. He is an
active member of the Professional Photographers of America, serves as a National
Councilor and the Rhode Island Certified Professional Photographers Liaison to
the Professional Photographers of America, and is
member of the Westerly Chamber of Commerce.
Gary has studied with some of the greatest photographers of our time. This has helped him
to develop a style and a philosophy about photography that is uniquely his own. In the
past two decades, Gary and Sandra have studied at the New England Institute of
Professional Photography and have attended well over 200 workshops, conventions, seminars,
and meetings on the art of photography. This has helped them to stay on top of current
styles and trends of photography.
During the 1999 and 2000
session of the New England Institute of Professional
Photography both Sandra and Gary worked as Trustees at
large to the school. Starting 2001 both will serve as RI Trustee to the
school for a three year term. The school commonly know as NEIPP is
considered one of the finest professional photography schools in the
county.
Over the past four years, Gary has been in demand to conduct programs at many state,
regional and national conventions, workshops, and monthly meetings. The
Professional Photographers of America Inc., has also picked Gary as a Consumer Awareness
Liaison to conduct programs on a state and regional level to promote the national
advertising campaign promoting professional photography. In addition, he has served
as a Print Judge for many state conventions. This honor is given only to those
photographers that have continually maintained a level of technical, artistic, and
traditional expertise. For this, Gary has been recognized as one of the top
photographers in the field of professional photography. Since holding all three
degrees offered by the Professional Photographers of America, he is one of only 212
photographers Internationally to hold this distinction.
